Rhonda Benin

initiated her career in her hometown of Los Angeles as a 16 year old member of the jazz trio Sound of Soul.  She did extensive work with such artists and producers as Paul Jackson, Jr., Ronnie Laws, Michael Bolton and Holland-Dozier-Holland. Moving to the San Francisco Bay Area in 1989, after working with singer Maria Muldaur, she branched into theater with ACTs production of Gospel At Colonus, and Oakland Ensemble Theatres, MLK: We Are The Dream. She also collaborated with Hugh Masekela on music for Dimensions Dance Theatres production of People Of The Zozos.

In 1995 Rhonda formed her own band and called it Soulful Strut. "My band is a funky, jazzy little band that delivers some of the best in Rhythm and Blues, with a splash of jazz and a solid helping of the blues." Soulful Strut appears regularly at many Bay Area night spots and is currently packing the house at San Franciscos historic Enricos Sidewalk Caf and Restaurant.

When she's not busy with the CHC and Soulful Strut, Rhonda performs with popular Bay Area bands, The Johnny Nocturne Band, Kent Strands, Starlight Orchestra, Mal Sharpe and Big Money in Jazz, and The Bill Travis Orchestra, just to name a few. Rhonda can also be heard on CDs by artists Maria Mauldar, Mickey Hart, Carlos Santana, and Eric Bibb. Television and radio credits include HBO's Live Aid and Real Sex, Safeway and The California Lottery.
